Earlier study has confirmed peanuts and nuts for their health advantages. Now, a recent research supports such study, finding that taking these foods may protect against death from several diseases, which includes cancer, heart problems and diabetes.
This study was performed by Prof. Piet van den Brandt and co-workers and the research is presented in the International Journal of Epidemiology.
Nuts and peanuts are a great source of omega-3, fiber, vitamin E, anti-oxidants and “good” fats. As such, they have been connected with a variety of health advantages, especially for the heart.
Earlier research have connected nut intake to decreased risk of blood clots, decrease cholesterol and lower risk of arrhythmia. But their advantages do not stop there. Recently , Clinical Research Society reported on a research linking nut intake to a 20% decreased risk of all-cause and cardiovascular death.
In this recent research, Prof. Brandt and co-workers identified that taking peanuts – which are basically legumes – and nuts (tree nuts) may decrease the risk of death from a number of conditions, with the association stronger for some diseases than others.

To reach their results, the investigators evaluated information from over 120,000 men and women aged 55-69 from the Netherlands, who were part of the Netherlands Cohort Study.
All individuals were requested how frequently they eaten peanuts or nuts and peanut butter and in what amounts. They then evaluated the connection between consumption of these foods and cause specific mortality among individuals since 1986, when the research began.
