Dear CRS members,

I am starting a new thread on CRS Quiz Competition 3: General Quiz which have questions on various aspects of Clinical Research, Pharmacovigilance, Medical writing, Regulatory affairs, Clinical Data Management, etc.,

As a Special bonus points, 02 points will be awarded to the CRS member who answered the first Question correctly in this Quiz.

Question 1:
Which is the drug withdrawn from the market  in 1950 - 1960s because of risk of teratogenicity; returned to market for use in leprosy and multiple myeloma under FDA orphan drug rules.

The first member who scores 25 points will be awarded as "Young Quiz Master" and he will be tagged as "Quiz Master" in his/her profile.

Dear Dr. Gunasakaran,

yes it is thalidomide. Thalidomide was used for morning sickness and nausea and was the drug of choice to help pregnant women, but was found to be associated with congenital abnormality causing severe birth defects. It was later reintroduced for treatment of leprosy and in combination with dexamethasone for the treatment myeloma.

Dear Dr.Gunasakaran,

The oral anti-diabetes (OAD) drug Avandia (rosiglitazone) has been withdrawn in Europe in Oct 2010 . This drug increases the risks of heart attack and stroke in patients taking it.
